The Gigantic Cats of Atelier Biagetti Kick Off Fuorisalone 2022 Providing Emotional Comfort
A full-fledged playground conceived for adults or kids that never want to grow up, born from the mind of a child: their daughter, Altea
What has always characterized the design of Atelier Biagetti, the creative duo composed of Laura Baldassari and Alberto Biagetti, is an ability to embrace the beyond. Their design looks further than functionality, beyond the mere object, art or prevailing trend. It’s an instinctual search that captures the social needs of the moment more than fads, which over the years has been translated into objects inspired by an attention to physical form, sex or money deposited in tax havens — all aesthetically resolved with a carefree and joyful approach. Maybe it’s the suspended atmosphere between a dream and the sea that comes from their homelands with a Fellinian memory, where the creative practice can only be taken seriously through play. For Pet Therapy, a new project kicking off Milan Design Week 2022, they use the eyes of a little girl, their daughter Altea, as a source of inspiration and as a full-fledged project manager for the idea, to construct a line of gigantic objects which are designed for emotional comfort rather than to fulfill a practical task. In doing so, they present a magical and chromatic sculpture in the form of a cat with spherical lights that become a warm and intimate refuge to lose oneself in long and reassuring embraces. It’s a true playground designed for adults or children who never want to grow up. After all, it was philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in Thus Spoke Zarathustra who asserted that “In a real man there is a child hidden: it wants to play.”
